LIPP final - seeds of an idea.
Tuesday, March 18th, 2008in class a couple of weeks ago, we all had to talk about what ideas we were formulating for our final performance. i took this class with the express purpose of learning how to use max for live performance purposes, but i hadn’t planned on being the one on stage. i haven’t performed in years so the thought of being in front of an audience again is kind of terrifying.
anyway, i talked about being inspired by william yang, an australian photographer/performer whose work i’m familiar with, whose performance method i find interesting. like i said in class, less kind critics of his performances have called them glorified slideshow presentations, but many others have found them to be very moving.
i’m interested in a kind of critique of this mode of performance - how it can be flipped, or modified, or extended - and seeing what can come of it. luke pointed me in the direction of a few artists to research, including dave gorman and david byrne. and i need to look into william yang’s work more, of course.
