a week of incredible awesomeness
tuesday:
- in my cabinets of wonder class we got to pitch ideas to the director of the museum of the city of new york. for reals.
- managed to get my networked objects assignment to work. consequently got to leave school before midnight. holy crap.
- it snowed all afternoon, and it stuck! getting from the museum back to school and then from school back home was made that much better because i got to tramp through powdery snow that squeaked and squished beneath my feet.
- ’sorry’ was said. elliott and i watched the video online like a couple of stunned mullets.
wednesday:
- played networked pong in class with my pong controller that actually worked. i’m still reeling in disbelief.
- meera arrived from chicago! yayness!
- dinner at penang, where meera and i were satiated by nasi and roti and mee, and amused by the waiters all dressed in red for chinese new year (till chap goh meh, they promised).
thursday:
- internship at the museum, where part of my afternoon was spent playing video games so we could record them for use in an upcoming event.
- had dinner delivered to us from this little place. delicious and indulgent.
- swapped going to tno for ben & jerry’s and mind your language. so old lady, but so much fun.
friday:
- over-long day at work, made better by dinner, drinks, laughter and good conversation with meera and her friends.
saturday:
- sleep-in and a pancake breakfast. bliss.
- adventures in soho! featuring:
- the evolution store;
- chocolate, coffee, and the best caramels either of us had ever tasted, ever;
- visiting the children’s museum of the arts for cabinets of wonder homework, and being delighted to find it more about activity than artefact;
- bananas and other interesting things at deitch.
- thanks to meera, who found it in one of the nyc guides i keep on my bookshelf but have yet to read, a trip to kalustyan’s, where i gleefully stocked up on much missed things such as kecap manis, curry powder, and haldiram’s.
- dinner with seanita and meera’s friend sean, who insisted on doing all the dishes and growled at me whenever i so much as lifted my butt off the chair to go into the kitchen.
- capturing george’s (understandable) infatuation with meera:

(click to see it large)
sunday:
- sleep-in and omelette breakfast cooked by meera. bliss.
- getting out of the bryant park station to get to the icp and walking into this:

if you lean in far enough you’ll be able to hear all the car-honking and cheering too. (in case you didn’t know, this was why.)
- coming across a fleamarket in chelsea on our way to adorama, which provided us with much amusement and several good photo opportunities besides.
- meeting up with sean at joe for late afternoon coffee, where it was packed as it always is on the weekend, and having the gods of caffeine and good timing smile upon us by freeing up a table just as meera and i had ordered our coffees.
- taking meera and sean up to itp and showing them around. taking people on tours of the floor is never not fun.
- a simple but delicious dinner at home of pasta, bread and red wine; and then chuckling through the sometimes odd but immensely likeable withnail & i.
monday:
- lunch at cosy little sri lankan restaurant in the east village. delicious and so cheap (by new york standards, anyway)!
- meandering through the guggenheim where we got to watch part of this exhibit being installed. also, did i mention that since i am an intern at momi, i have a security pass that got us free entry into every museum we visited this weekend? oh yeah.
- hot chocolate and biscuits at home before meera had to leave to catch her flight home.
thank you, lovely, for coming to visit. thank you for a week full of easy companionship, thoughtful conversation, and soul-restoring laughter.

what an awesomety week!
i grew up on ‘mind your language’ as a kid…maybe that explains the bad punning…
